The Parthenon can only really be appreciated by standing in front of it in person.
The ancient architects felt the same about its appearance and decided to angle the columns to correct the visual distortion that is caused when viewing the temple from the ground!!!!
We saw giant cranes that had to be reconstructed inside the Parthenon, struggling to move the smallest stones. When we asked how the ancient builders accomplished this feat, most just smiled, stumbled out an obscure explanation of ropes and pulleys, but in general declared the famous words . . . . lost technology!
